Our First Direct Sales Store

Our First Direct Sales Store

It all started at Kyoto Station.

In 1952, Kyoto Station underwent a transformation into a modern terminal, leading to the opening of the "Kyoto Station Tourist Department Store," which housed a collection of specialty shops. Within this innovative space, the sixth-generation Masami Fukui launched the inaugural direct sales outlet, representing Uji tea.

We want to share the joy of Uji tea with as many people as possible.

The sign hanging in that shop encapsulated a desire to deliver delicious Uji tea to as many individuals as possible. At the time, it was considered a pioneering concept for a specialty shop.

From the sign written by the sixth generation (from the first store's sign):

Please enjoy our Uji tea.

Uji tea, a significant product of Kyoto Prefecture, is often referred to as "the tea of Kyoto" or "Kyoto's tea." Authentic Uji tea is renowned for its exceptional aroma and flavor, considered the essence of the tea's life. It possesses a quality unmatched by other regional teas. We kindly request direct transactions from the manufacturer to ensure that you can fully appreciate the unique flavor of Uji tea.

We sincerely hope you will give it a try...

From the owner of Fukujuen, a long-established tea house.

Selling Tea in Packets to Preserve Freshness

In the past, tea shops would scoop tea out of large pots and sell it by weight, much like miso and soy sauce. Selling tea in small packets, preserving its quality without compromising freshness, became possible with the advent of moisture-proof packaging materials like plastic. The practice of manufacturers packing tea into small bags for sale began with our store at Kyoto Station, marking a significant milestone in how tea is distributed and enjoyed.
