Premium Sencha & Tencha Green Tea from Kyoto
A quiet expression of elegance and natural beauty.
“Kanka” combines the characters 閑 and 花.
The character “kan” (閑) expresses a state of calmness and tranquility — a peaceful mind free from desire and attachment. In Zen philosophy, it appears in words such as kanjaku, describing a serene and quiet state of being.
The character “ka” (花), meaning “flower,” represents natural beauty in the tradition of the Japanese tea ceremony. Rather than ornate decoration, it reflects the subtle beauty of flowers as they naturally appear in the field.
The name Kanka was chosen with the hope that each cup of tea offers a moment of timeless calm and quiet reflection.
A Unique Blend of Sencha and Tencha
The Shikunshi series introduces four creative teas that explore the rich mellowness (“maromi”) of Japanese green tea.
Kanka Blend combines:
• Sencha – known for its refreshing character and balanced flavor
• Tencha – the leaves used to produce Matcha, prized for its rich aroma and umami
The result is a tea that is distinct from both Sencha and Gyokuro — offering a refined flavor that can only be experienced through this unique blend.
A Tea Inspired by the “Shikunshi”
The name Shikunshi (四君子) refers to the “Four Gentlemen” of East Asian art — plum blossom, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum.
These plants symbolize elegance, resilience, and quiet strength.
The Shikunshi tea series reflects these values, inviting you to enjoy a moment of calm reflection through tea.

What is Tencha?
This tea is blended with Tencha, a rare Japanese green tea known for its delicate fragrance and rich umami.
Tencha is specially cultivated to produce Matcha. Before harvest, the tea plants are shaded from sunlight for about 20 days, which enhances their sweetness and deep umami flavor.
After harvesting, the leaves are steamed and carefully dried without the rolling process typical of other green teas. The stems and veins are then removed, leaving only the soft parts of the leaf called Tencha.
These leaves are traditionally stone-ground into fine powder to make Matcha, but when brewed as leaf tea, Tencha offers a uniquely fragrant and elegant flavor experience.
